How to Make the Most of a Girls Weekend in Charleston

Charleston is a top destination to spend a celebratory weekend, whether that’s for a bachelorette party, girls’ getaway, or simply experiencing a new city with an eclectic group of friends. And it’s easy to see why.

It’s the perfect place to take in southern charm, divine cuisine, and vibrant nightlife. Plus, the beaches and shopping. Need we say more?

There’s certainly no shortage of fun options. Though, sometimes a crew may want to take in more of what the area has to offer. That’s why we’re highlighting some of the best group activities that may not be as front-and-center.

     1. Get into some arts + crafts

What better way to bond with friends than by getting creative? The good news is there are several creative activities around Charleston. We especially love these options as an indoor reprieve during Charleston’s hot and humid summer months.

For an unforgettable experience, bring your friends to Tijon Charleston and create a custom fragrance tailored to your individual taste. With over 300 oils to choose from, their instructors will teach you the art of fragrance curation. After class, you’ll be ready to wear your custom fragrance for your night on the town, walk down the aisle, or as a signature everyday scent.

Another fun, relaxing experience is a candle-making class at Charleston’s Candlefish. Their chandlers will teach you the ins and outs of candle making, guide you through fragrance selection, and help you make two 9oz. candles. While you’re doing that, you can also sip on your own bubbly or brews. Don’t worry about glassware or bottle openers. They’ll provide the necessities! Another worry you don’t have to contend with is packing your candles for the plane. Not local to Charleston? They offer flat rate shipping.

If you prefer a creative activity at The Palms, you can book a private macrame workshop with Rosie the Wanderer. She’s turned her knot tying skills into carefully curated classes that combine the art of macramé with tons of fun.

     2. Head out to the beach

We’ve worked to make The Palms feel like your own oasis, and it’s true you could experience Charleston’s charm without leaving the peninsula. But it’s also true that Charleston is known for many qualities, one of them being the area beaches. So, why not head out for some sun and sand? Take your pick from Isle of Palms, the beach at Sullivan’s Island, Folly Beach, or even Kiawah’s Beachwalker Park.

For the group that wants an active beach activity, take a yoga class with Bad Girls Yoga. You can expect a yoga, pilates, and strength training session tailored specifically to you as well as a celebratory toast to end the class. Bad Girls yoga will come to your location of choice and provide everything you need, including the rosé.

For a truly unique, memorable (and Instagrammable) experience, try dining al fresco with a popup picnic. Simply choose your package as well as any food, floral, or additional upgrades, and the professional planners at Pampas & Picnics will take care of the rest. Then, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the ambiance with friends.

Want a way to get there that doesn’t require someone driving or multiple Ubers? Let the Graffiti Limo take you there in their one-of-a-kind party bus.

     3. Take in the view from the water

Charleston is surrounded by water and the views are nothing less than spectacular. So, it makes sense that there are several ways you can experience Charleston from the water.

Saltwater Cycle offers options like their pontoon-style pedal powered cycle boat or custom tiki-style party boat. Either way, you’re taking the party to the water while shoreline sightseeing.

For a more refined water tour, you can hop aboard a daytime or sunset private sailing adventure with Charleston Sailing Adventures

Looking for a mix of music, food, and views from the water? Enjoy a themed cruise from Charleston Harbor Tours like blues and BBQ or jazz and brunch.

     4. Relax and rejuvenate

Rest and relaxation are not hard to come by in the Holy City. Of course, you can always curl up on your own private porch at The Palms or lounge in the secluded, shared courtyard. As the sun hits off the palm trees, you can refill your beverage right from our outdoor bar. But if you’re looking for more pampering, you have options.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Charleston, Salt Spa & Yoga offers a refresh for the mind, body, and soul with services ranging from massages and facials to reiki energy healing and psychic readings. Another local favorite within a mile walk of The Palms is Woodhouse Spa. Their warm, calming environment will help you slip into a state of complete relaxation as you enjoy a complementary mimosa or wine in their luxurious quiet room between services.

Sometimes it’s more fun to let someone else help get you ready for your night out. Drybar Charleston is located one block away from The Palms. They’ll provide a premier blowout so all you and your friends have to do is sit back and relax.

     5. And if that isn’t enough…

If you’re looking for even more to add to your agenda, here are a few final options to consider for your soiree.

Explore what’s in your glass with either a public or private wine class with Edmund’s Oast Exchange. You can also catch a RiverDogs game, Charleston’s minor league baseball team, at “The Joe.” Last (but certainly not least), cat lovers should check out Pounce Cat Café + Wine Bar
